Karsiyaka Sports Club basketball team which has been one of the milestones of Turkish basketball history, has played its games at Atatürk Arena for so many years which was counted as "away games" by the fans due to its distance from Karsiyaka. We have experienced success, victory, happiness and upsets there in Alsancak. However, 3000 capacity arena happened to be small for Karsiyaka and thousands weren't able to get into the arena because of full capacity. Izmir was hosting the Universiade 2005 Summer Olmypics and with the budget from this organization, committee has decided to build a sport complex in Karsiyaka for mainly volleyball games.

Karsiyaka Arena was built as a sports complex. It broke ground on October 17, 2002. Karsiyaka Municipality has taken care of the infrastructure of the building, rest was finished by the Izmir Municipality.

Arena that was built for Universiade 2005 Summer Olmypics has a capacity of 5000 fans. (4200 and another 800 seats that are located under the lower section) There are two scoreboards on the walls behind the hoops and one more hanging off the ceiling which is centering the arena and visible to every single person in the arena, no matter where you are sitting. This makes it easy to follow the player's performances.

The facility covers 11,650 squaremeter and has training facility with 500 fans capacity, gym, VIP section, meeting room with a capacity of 100, media room, doctor room, fitting rooms, 20 hospitality rooms, parking lot for 800 cars, 5 cafes, offices. Red seats are used throughout the arena. There's also a cabin on the top section for TV cameras to be able to air flawlessly. Acoustic is great. Landscaping and space you have inside the arena is unique. Technology is top notch. After the Universiade 2005 organization, ownership has been passed over to Karsiyaka Sports Club. From now on, it will host all of Karsiyaka Sports Club basketball team's victories and will also host everybody from Karsiyaka and our visitors.
